  • November 2007: The book Breaking the Mould: The Role of Scenarios in Shaping South Africa's Future is the product of the SA Node's Scenario Learning Project. The book, authored by Prof Nick Segal, was launched at our Futures Conference this month and was distributed to all conference delegates. It is now available for sale from AFRICAN SUN MeDIA.

 

 

  • September 2007: Build-up towards Novemeber's premier International Futures Conference in SA. The programme is filling out with exciting content. We welcome you to register today for this significant oppotunity to listen, speak, interact, and innovate!
  • August 2007: State of the Future 2007 report of the Millennium Project released. "The 2007 State of the Future report offers well-researched evidence of global trends and challenges that are shaping the agenda of the United Nations" - Hans Blix, President, WFUNA, and Former Director-General, IAEA. UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon recognizes that the report "is an informative publication that gives invaluable insights into the future for the United Nations, it Member States, and civil society". As always, the report will be made available in South Africa via the SA Node from September. An email broadcast will be sent around to announce the local release - drop us an email if you would like to reserve your copy. Participants in the MP Delphi Survey will also be alerted regarding their complementary copies.
  • August 2007: Millennium Project Meeting Identifies Actions for Global Challenges. The Millennium Project of the World Federation of United Nations Associations met in Minneapolis July 27-29 to discuss progress made in 2006 on 15 major global challenges, discuss the findings of the forthcoming 2007 State of the Future, and develop the 2008 work program.   • July 2007: Call for Papers Closed but Registrations Opening Soon. Keep track of latest developments regarding SA Futures Conference 2007 via the conference website.

  • June 2007: Extended Call for Papers deadline for Futures Conference 2007. Kindly note that abstracts are still being accepted for the November Futures conference in South Africa until 25 June 2007. See Conference Webpage for announcement.

 

  • May 2007: SA Futures Conference 2007 Conference First Announcement and Call for Abstracts. It is our pleasure to issue the First official announcement of the Futures Conference to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from 5 - 8 November 2007.

 

  • April 2007: SA Node and IFR co-operate on Millennium Project’s 15 Global Challenges. The Institute for Futures Research (IFR) at the University of Stellenbosch is to incorporate the 15 Global Challenges as identified by the Millennium Project in their M Phil (Future Studies) course as from 2007. The Millennium Project’s principle publication, the State of the Future, is also to be prescribed material for this course. Last year the Public & Development Management (P&DM) programme at the Wits Business School also started to teach the 15 Global Challenges.

 

  • February 2007: Futures Conference 2007 to progress as a MP initiative. Following a mutual decision between the SA Node and WFSF not to proceed with hosting the WFSF in South Africa this year as planned, the conference will proceed as an international event hosted by the SA Node.
