  • September 2006: Copies of the 2006 State of the Future Report are now available from the SA Node! Get them locally from the SA Node faster and cheaper than the recommended retail price using this ORDER FORM . Complimentary copies are being mailed to the respondents to the Global Energy Delphi study. Please contact the node if you have not received notification about your complimentary copy.

  • August 2006: "….The capabilities of civilization to build a better future are rich but terribly inefficient. Improving efficiency requires seeing the status of the whole and its parts as objectively as possible... Yet it is a fact that the world is becoming more peaceful, prosperous, and healthy." This and much much more in the 2006 State of the Future Report which was just released. For more information, see the Press release , Executive Summary , and Website . Copies of the much anticipated report will be available from the SA Node.

  • August 2006: The 2006 updates and improvements to the short versions of the 15 Global Challenges are now available online.

  • July 2006: Consultants have been appointed to begin work on the South African Scenarios Study: Two Decades of Learning. It is anticipated that the report will be available in mid-2007.

  • June 2006: The SA Node is pleased to announce generous funding support that has been provided by the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund towards the project “South African Scenarios Study: Two Decades of Learning”. Public scenarios can be put to good use to solve public problems, as has indeed happened in South Africa. Through this project, the South African experience can be researched, documented and shared with the global futures community and policy makers.Updates on the project will be posted under the PROJECTS pages.

  • May 2006: 1-page summary of 15 Global Challenges for Humanity is now available from the Millennium Project. Keep an eye on our PROJECTS webpage for regional activities on developing an understanding and awareness of the Challenges, as well as exploring possible solutions to them.

  • March 2006: Call to participate in 2020 Global Energy Delphi Round 2.   • February 2006: WSFS XX World Conference in 2007 to be held in South Africa. Announcement – The South Africa Node, in collaboration with the African Futures Institute, is proud to receive official notification that we have been successful in our bid to host the World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF) 20th World Conference 2007! More details to follow as the planning ensues.

  • February 2006: Presentation on Global Scenarios and Implications for Constructing Future Livestock Scenarios. On Jerome Glenn of the MP presented a paper at the First Meeting of the Future of Livestock in Developing Countries to 2030 conference which was jointly organized by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Nairobi, Kenya on February 13-15, 2006.   • January 2006: View monthly Environmental Security updates. Monthly updates from an ongoing scan of environmental security issues can be viewed at Emerging Environmental Security Issues web site . The purpose of this MP project is to assess worldwide environmental-related issues in order to identify and analyze events that might trigger future international environmental treaties, conventions, or protocols and/or modifications to the existing ones. Items date back to August 2002.
